A Gentleman’s Guide to Parallel Parking

There are two types of people on this earth: those who can parallel park and those who can’t. For those who can life is sweet. For those who can’t it’s a rather different picture. Is there anything worse than stares of judgement as you attempt to parallel park in a crowded area? With the key word being attempt, we think not. For those gents out there who haven’t quite got the hang of it yet we’ve put together a sort of dummies guide to parking. Because life is way too short to live in fear of parallel parking, trust us.

  1. First things first, find a spot. Obviously the spot needs to be big enough to fit your car with room to maneuver your way out.
  2. Next, pull up next to the car in front of the spot you’re parking in. You should be in line with the car. A good way to measure is to align your front mirrors with theirs. You should be just over an arms length apart.
  3. Make sure you’re in reverse and slowly reverse back, when your back door is inline with the back of the parked car begin turning the wheel, keep checking your mirrors and make sure it’s safe for you to continue. You want to come to around a 45 degree angle with the car parked.
  4. Once you’re at the 45 degree angle to the curb, begin straightening up as you reverse.
  5. Once you’re in the spot begin to straighten up and perfect the park.

Voila – you’re done! Next, step out of your car with the attitude that you know you just nailed that park and continue to destination.
