Looking after your skin while in isolation mode

For many guys, looking after their skin ends up in the ‘too hard’ basket. Life gets in the way, and that’s understandable. However, now more than ever it is important to invest in yourself to feel good while the environment we are immersed in with COVID-19 is challenging – to say the least.

The key to nailing your skincare routine is to not over complicate it. Here at gentSac, we help a lot of guys who have never invested in skincare before and are not sure how to start. This guide is the no fuss approach to getting started.

Cleanse daily

Daily non negotiable. Cleansing is the basis for healthy and younger looking skin. Cleansing twice a day, or at least daily will remove sweat, remove dirt, pollutants and excess sebum, open the pores and help prepare your skin for moisturiser.

Just as you would wash your hair with shampoo, you should wash your face with a cleanser (p.s. don’t use shampoo as a cleanser, we’ve seen it before).

Pro tip: you can cleanse in the shower. Take your head out from under the water momentarily and apply the cleanser for a minute or two. Easy.

gentSac recommends:

This Face Fuel Cleanser from The Groomed Man Co. is a restorative and effective wash, combining ingredients that eliminate dirt and excess oil while maintaining the skin’s natural pH and oil balance. Suitable for all skin types.

Moisturise daily

The next level in your routine should be moisturising daily. Moisturising is important to rehydrate the skin after a cleanse, and also to aid with the regeneration of skin cells.

With moisturising, the skin is susceptible to drying out which can lead to damage and flakiness. Lastly, if you are concerned about aging (AKA everyone!) then moisturising is the right preventative measure.

gentSac recommends:

Gameface moisturiser is a tool to serve and protect you from the elements. Specifically engineered to be light on the skin and easily absorbed, Gameface is a unique formulation of Jojoba extract, Horopito oil, Ponga fern (Cumingii) and Vitamin E, combined with a subtle infusion of essential oils to deliver a fragrance we call ‘smoke and wood’. The result is a nutrient-rich, hydrating cream that will leave skin feeling toned, supple and fresh. Suitable for all skin types.

Scrub once a week

For a deeper clean you will need to use a scrub, a process otherwise known as exfoliating. Exfoliating helps your skin turn over its top dermal layer more often, to help address breakouts, flakiness or excess sebum AND help to maintain your youthful, radiant complexion 😉

You only need to do this once a week. Over exfoliating your skin can irritate the skin and leave it more susceptible to breakouts.

Pro tip: for a smoother shave, schedule your once-a-week scrub before you shave.

Pro tip no.2: to level up your skincare even further, schedule your weekly scrub before using a face mask (not the COVID-19 type). See more below.

gentSac recommends:

Lucky Tiger Face Scrub exfoliates, revitalises and brightens by gently and effectively lifting dead skin cells. Formulated with a combination of certified organic ingredients including Honey to hydrate and soften, Hibiscus to calm and tone and Green Tea to repair and protect. Made in the USA. Suitable for all skin types.

Bring out the mask for the ULTIMATE level up

Masks are having a bit of a moment right now. And not the sort you are thinking of.

Using a mask is the ultimate level up in your routine, as they offer enhanced results. If you use a mask just once a week, it can help tone your skin and to tighten your pores to reduce the appearance of fine lines (aging) on the skin. It’s also just a nice ritual; 5 minutes of ‘you’ time. It’s a thing, trust us.

Technically speaking, face masks create a barrier between the air around you and the contents of the mask that’s on your face. So, rather than some of that product evaporating straight away (this can happen with moisturisers and while cleansing), the product has more of a deeper penetrating effect on your skin.

When you hear about masking you might picture a girl in a robe with a towel on her head and a cucumber mask clinging to her face. We think not! Instead, picture 007 jumping from a building rescuing us all from COVID-19 – mask on.

If he can do it, you can too. Be a taskmasker while you are working from home.

We recommend using:

A natural high performance treatment mask crafter with charcoal and bentonite and kaoline clay to deeply cleanse pores and remove impurities, and aleo vera, vitamin a and e to hydrate, sooth and nourish skin
